When I was a child, I loved to make footprints on the wet sand with my bare feet at the beach.
They were easy to make but didn’t stay very long, because the tide would wash the footprints away
and they disappeared forever.
It is harder to make footprints on solid ground. But if you keep on making them, they will form a
track, which will not be easily washed away by rain. When more people use this track and know
where they are going, it will become a path leading to a destination. If more and more people use it
and eventually improve it, then the path may become a road for the convenience and safety of the
users. Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me.”
(John 14:6)
The following books (revised in 2003) are the footprints of my forefathers and my own experiences
in life. Some of the footprints were made on wet sand and eventually washed away. But I hope that
most of them will become a road, which will help readers to find their eternal destiny.
I wrote these books after my retirement in 2000. In the beginning, I was not sure that I could write
anything about my life. But with the encouragement of my wife Bev, I set off to write the first book “A
Step Forward (勇往直前)” about my early life in Australia (for my three daughters). Upon the
completion of this book, I again attempted to write the second book “The Blessing (蒙福)” about the
Wong family history and my early childhood in southern China. In order to give a better picture of my
own family, I wrote the third book “Beyond A Dream (意想不到)” to fill in the gap, outlining my
marriage and the making of a family.
The fourth book “The Things My Mother Told Me (母言錄)” is a collection of stories and tales, which
my mother told me long time ago. It was written as a gift to our grandchildren and an addition to the
above three books.
We had our ups and downs in bringing up the family, but we thank God that He looked after us in
all circumstances. My footprints are there to help you discover the path. We live one day at a time.
God wants us to see that the real joy in life is not in arriving; it’s in the journey itself.
